What is Sade Sati?

Saturn takes about 30 years to go round the zodiac, spending roughly 2½ years in each sign. Sade Sati (साढ़े साती, "seven and a half") is the time Saturn spends in the sign before your Moon sign (rashi), in your Moon sign itself, and in the sign after it: three signs of about 2½ years each.

Who is in Sade Sati and Dhaiya now

Saturn entered Meena (Pisces) at the end of March 2025 (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa) and stays there until June 2027. That gives:

Every other rashi (Vrishabha, Mithuna, Karka, Kanya, Tula, Vrishchika, Makara) is free of both in 2026.

What changes in 2027–28

Saturn enters Mesha on about 3 June 2027, goes back into Meena while retrograde on about 21 October 2027, and settles in Mesha from about 24 February 2028 until 2030.

When it does: Kumbha's Sade Sati ends, Vrishabha's begins, Meena moves to the last phase and Mesha to the peak. Dhaiya moves from Dhanu and Simha to Makara (4th) and Kanya (8th). Panchangs may differ by a day on these dates.

The three phases

• First phase (12th from the Moon): expenses, travel, sleep and a feeling of things slipping away. Often a time of letting go and planning.
• Second phase (over the Moon): the most felt. Responsibility rises, results come slowly, the mind can feel heavy. It also builds patience and maturity.
• Third phase (2nd from the Moon): family, savings and speech need care. Many people find work finally pays off here.

Four myths

• "Sade Sati is always bad." No. Saturn rewards honest, steady effort. Many people get promotions, marry or buy a house during Sade Sati.
• "Everyone of the same rashi has the same Sade Sati." No. Saturn's own place and strength in your birth chart, your lagna and the running dasha change it completely. Saturn in its own sign (Makara, Kumbha) or exalted (Tula) usually gives a gentler period.
• "You should not marry or buy property in Sade Sati." There is no such blanket rule. The timing is chosen from your chart and a muhurta.
• "A blue sapphire will fix it." Neelam is a strong stone and is never worn on the basis of Sade Sati alone. It needs a full chart reading and a trial.

Traditional remedies

These are the remedies families have used for generations. They are simple, cost little and do no harm:

• Chant ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः (Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah) 108 times on Saturdays, or read the Hanuman Chalisa daily.
• Light a sesame-oil (til) lamp under a peepal tree on Saturday evenings.
• Give black sesame, urad dal, a blanket or footwear to someone who needs it, especially on Saturdays.
• Serve elders, workers and people with disabilities; Saturn is their karaka.
• Keep the discipline Saturn asks for: be on time, finish what you start, avoid shortcuts and alcohol.
